Idaho

Idaho's biggest draw is its wild, mountainous scenery, vast peaks, pristine lakes, and thrilling rivers that earned it a reputation as America’s outdoors playground. Known for skiing, hiking, hot springs, and famously tasty potatoes, it offers active family adventures and solo trips that balance high-energy days with truly peaceful mountain solitude.

Hit the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Craters of the Moon for trails, and don’t miss rafting the Salmon River. Stay in Boise for culture and flights, Ketchum for ski-country access, and Coeur d’Alene for lakeside family fun activities.

Superb little log cabin in its own wooded spot, with stove top so we could cook our own meals as my wife is vegan. Lovely hot tub on the deck. Great store and fuel stop close by, and 35mins to Yellowstone entrance.

Boise is a surprisingly charming and sophisticated town.
Boise

Boise is a surprisingly charming and sophisticated town. We enjoyed visiting the state capitol building and botanical gardens. We liked the downtown, shopping, and different neighborhoods with good restaurants, bars, shops. Don't miss the Mixed Greens gift/housewares/fun stuff shop! Cool architecture all over. Nice people all over. Great food and outstanding service at Wylder for lunch (pizza, salads, great budino dessert); good trout at Fork (don't bother with the much-touted fried asparagus--greasy!), and even better grilled trout at Anthony's. Nice brew pubs and food courts all over. We wanted to visit the art museum, but it was closed on the only day that would have worked for us.

Coeur d'Alene

The lake is beautiful, views are gorgeous, the old part of town quaint and nice, college area charming, but the new construction (shopping area, high apartment buildings) ruins the charm of the town and makes it look like a standard anywhere-in-US development. Downtown small and touristy. For food, try shabu-shabu in downtown (for some reason, it's called Hawaiian).

Idaho Falls

Floors were sticky and dirty, no shampoo or conditioner, had to ask for it. Shower door and shower pan were both dirty, no working ice machine, the desk was sticky, had a 4 plug-in cube it didnt work, no frig, and no mattress cover. Landscaping had not been done in sometime. Only had 1 person working the front desk while the line kept building up. Key card did not work on the 2nd day, so had to stand for 30 minutes waiting to get key card reactivated.

Twin Falls

simply terrible Hotel desk clerk was rude when I checked in garbage was overflowing at the front door stains on the carpet. Coffee pot was dirty no shampoo in the shower and some ugly 14 legged worm was in the bathroom floor. I was also sent an email confirming my reservation as I had emailed them and told them I had a pet. They said we have considered your request. There will be no extra charge however when I checked in, they said it was $75 pretty bad communication skills.

Driggs

It is a great little dog friendly Gem. I can't have been more pleased to spend three days in Driggs. Wyado coffee was the perfect spot for my early morning coffee and dog fix! Everyone was so nice. I used the post office to mail 2 letters and it was efficient and the lady behind the counter was very helpful and had a lovely personality. I was disappointed not to be able to attend the markets on Fri/Sat. Great location to explore Jackson and GTNP. I guess I will just have to come back. Thank you 😊

Pocatello

We went to the Museum of Clean and My World Discovery and it was a lot of fun with kids. I thought we would only stay an hour but we spent 2 hrs and could have spent a little more if we didn't have other plans. There was a lot of places to eat with a variety of options. We took a small side trip to Lava hot springs to swim for a couple hours- to was fun but very busy on the weekend.

Sandpoint

Love the small town feel with great shops and restaurants. Our downtown hotel was perfectly located to walk everywhere. Connie's Restaurant is our favorite for breakfast and right next door to our hotel. It's just a beautiful small town on a beautiful lake! We visit every summer to remember our roots. My family homesteaded on their Pend O'reille lakefront property in the late 1800's and still own it. Sand Point is precious.

McCall

The people weren't friendly and act like out of town people are a bother. The first restaurant we tried had an hour wait but they had closed off empty tables in the restaurant and using only a few outside tables. We had to go to another which treated us fine, but run down and not the place we wanted to treat our elderly mother. The traffic and road construction in the middle of town was a mess. This was a trip to attend a memorial and let my mother remember her days in this area, but not the same town anymore. We should have just driven home all the way that night! Waste of time and money.
