"It's a great place, just be care if you are a woman. Do NOT go out alone or at night. My housemate and I went to a beach that was 6-7 walking minutes away. It was absolutely lovely. We went at 6pm and left at 8pm. It was dark. Unfortunately 2 masked children (of about 12) tried to "jump" us with knives. I've been traveling for 30 years and robbed 7 times before (including this; that averages out to 1/4 years and I AM VERY WHITE, with blue eyes, blond hair and stand out in certain places, so I may be an "easy target". Still, I've never had knives drawn on me. So PLEASE be careful, especially if you are women. BE SMART. I wasn't. Thankfully all I walked away with was some PTSD and bad memories, but they had masks & REAL KNIVES and it could have been VERY BAD."
"I am orginally from Mindelo so this is home away from home. My city is easily accessible by walking or car. People are friendly and the food is amazing. I love sitting at local coffee shops like Kafe Djan Djan and Prassa 3 and also having some ice cream Cremositos - the best italian ice cream around."
"Sal Rei is a small, developing town that is really hoping to expand and attract more visitors. The locals were friendly and we felt safe walking everywhere, even at night. There is construction going on everywhere from the town square to housing on the outskirts. It was about a 30 minute walk from one side of town to the other, and taxis were readily available. Roads are cobblestone and/or dirt, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Cash is recommended, as there are still many restaurants and shops that do no accept cards. It's a good idea to bring Euros with you, as the ATMs do not always have money (Escudos) available. The beaches are beautiful and not crowded, but can be quite windy. The serra at Té Manché was excellent, as was the pizza at Ristorante Pizzeria O Gato & A Raposa."

Staff was incredibly kind and helpful, and Patricia was wonderful to speak with and learn about her life. Spacious room in a perfect location to be able to walk to everything in Mindelo. Patricia helped me organize a day trip to Santo Antão, a true highlight, as well as an airport taxi.

Unique stay and experience in the Fogo caldeira- family owned and operated and authentic. The staff were helpful and kind - they added to the experience. Think skies void of light pollution- perfect for star gazing (bring layers!), hikes and time free to take in the unique otherworldly landscape. If going to the caldeira, spending a night or 2 here is definitely recommended

we came here without any expectatuons and were surprused - in a good way. The hotel is in the center few steps away from the main pedestrian street, few steps away from the beach(s). All the staff is very helpful, kind willing to give you advice if one is needed. Breakfast is good, room was pleasant. I liked it.

Cátia and Eloi, who run the place, are 5-star! They're welcoming and go the extra-mile to make you feel at home. They also gave me a lift to São Filipe - which I very much appreciated. The hotel's location is right on top of a very calm bay, is great. Food was also great.

I have no words to describe how much I loved this place. I felt instantly at home and I could have stayed for a whole month without getting bored. It’s incredibly comfortable, clean and well located. The food is delicious. The owner helped us plan our days with amazing tips and the animals just wanted to cuddle whenever given a chance. I have to come back!

La Fora is beautiful and we loved looking out from our room to see all the plants, the staff are amazing, the team communicated constantly with us to help us arrange things, and the set dinner menus were so good. I have already recommended La Fora Ecolodge to all my friends coming to Fogo.
