"The physical property is beautiful and the staff are friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious but we don’t recommend dinner. Not nearly as good as kaiseki in Kyoto. The private dining rooms are a nice touch but the music is too loud. It detracts from the great ambience"

One of 1,223 reviews:
"Niigata is a refreshing small city, and the river has beautiful views of both sides. Each side of the river has green pedestrian and bicycle rider paths. There is easy access to the Performing Arts Center with its living rooftop garden on it's oval shaped building. Hakusan Park is not to be missed - an oasis away from the hubbub of office and city life! Complete with a lotus pond, bridges, a large temple, Tori gates, and a pond with a wisteria-covered bridge. Very scenic. There are the shops on Furumachidori - a covered avenue with adorable shops, bronze figures of baseball players, and the Japan Animation and Manga College is on this avenue. Along this dori you might see a box of turtles sunning on the sidewalk!"

"We stayed at Hotel Kagetsu which is just a few minutes walk from the castle. The castle is def worth a visit. If you go to the top there are very steep stairs. We ate at two local restaurants. I can recommend the tiny tonkatsu restaurant which is just 50m down the road from the hotel. A taxi from the station takes 10 mins and costs 1000 yen."

"There is a lot to see and do in Nagano that I didn't expect. Zenkoji Temple was an exceptional experience and highly recommend getting the combined ticket to access all aspects of the temple. The station offers regular shopping as well as a lot of souvenir stores with local specialties. Did not have enough time to see the old Olympic facilities but would have been fun to explore. Overall, it was fun to explore and would definitely recommend at least two days."

"You can do most of the things in Karuizawa with a day trip or a 1 night stay from Tokyo. Super convenient, right off the Hokiriku Shinkansen. It's basically a summer getaway for rich Tokyo-ites to escape the heat. Lots of great nature things to see, highly recommended IMHO"

"Our Colorado group of 7 went to Hakuba on a birthday ski trip hoping for the famous Japanese powder and did not get it that week ( Feb 17 to Feb 24). But the ski areas were really fun, the restaurants plentiful and amazing, and the overall vibe being authentic sleepy Japanese ski village meets the pressures of modern tourism. We were really happy and comfortable staying at the modern chalet and sensed that we were staying in one of the nicest accommodations in the neighborhood of Echoland. Our hostess Yuri was fantastic and graciously helped our group navigate shipped luggage, taxis, buses, restaurants, onsens, and every question and challenge put before her. We highly recommend staying at the Chalet Setsugekka."

This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at - from the hospitable welcome, the myriad of amenities (free welcome hot bev, udon noodles post-onsen, incredible rooftop onsen with great views, free ice cream and Yakult post-bath), cute and clean rooms, the ease of doing laundry within the women's locker change rooms etc. The buffet breakfast was super delicious and we just really enjoyed our time and experience here we wanted to stay in the whole time. HIGHLY recommend staying here if you're in Matsumoto.

Excellent service, room size and cleanliness, amenities (amazing coffee and amenities for children), options for breakfast within the hotel, shuttle bus services and the location being close to Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza (3 min walk from our hotel). The best part is that the hotel is divided into many buildings and surrounded by many trees over a very large space. So it is not crowded and we got to enjoy the natural scenery.

We had a fantastic time in Fujiyoshida.

We had a fantastic time in Fujiyoshida. The views were absolutely stunning, and we really wished we could have stayed longer to explore more of the area. One of the reasons we visited was to take our children to Fuji-Q Highland, as they were excited to ride the famous roller coasters. Unfortunately, the queues were extremely long—not only for buying tickets but also for the rides themselves. As we were on a tight schedule, we couldn't wait long enough and had to leave without experiencing the roller coasters. Despite that disappointment, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The scenery was beautiful, and we'd love to return in the future with more time to explore and, hopefully, finally enjoy Fuji-Q Highland.

Definitely need to come back to this city. We missed the hike to Happo Pond because the trail was temporarily closed for a week, and the weather was a bit cloudy during our stay following the typhoon. Even so, the city was incredibly peaceful and beautiful. I absolutely loved every moment here and can't wait to return.

Yamanakako is a smaller place, but very good if you want to see Fuji without the massive tourist crowds. Kawaguchiko is about 50 minutes by bus if you want to have more shops. Yamanakako has a few cute cafes and nice restaurants, but depending on where you are staying some might be a bit of a walk, so renting a bike makes life a bit easier. Definitely recommend if you are looking for peaceful vibes!

Kofu is a really cool place. It is central to quite a few places and easy to navigate, whether you have a car or are using the public system. Shopping is great. One piece of advice would be, if you don't speak or understand Japanese, make usre you have google translate or earbuds as no one speaks english there.
