I had two nights booked at the Portaferry Hotel and enjoyed my seaview/lochview room so much I booked another two nights. The room was reasonable size and clean, and was complete with a lovely good sized ensuite bathroom. The breakfast staff was delightful. Many thanks to Kateland for excellent service and a friendly breakfast chats. There was a meeting room I was able to use to work a few hours on my laptop. The internet cut out a few times but nothing serious. The wee town is lovely and great for a stroll. Sunsets are nice. Two grocery stores are just a few minutes walk away. The ferry to and from Strangford and Portaferry runs on a regular basis for less than £3. Also available is the city bus into Belfast which takes just over an hour. Portaferry Hotel is a great location and with beautiful views and nearby conveniences. For those who want a town with a lot to do, Portaferry is probably not your first choice. For those who want a beautiful relaxing time, stay as long as you can.

So private in a lovely area! Our hot tub had been pre- heated, which was so kind and meant we could get straight in on arrival! The bed was so comfy and we had a peaceful nights sleep. The barn bar and restaurant is a stones throw away and the food/staff are fabulous! We will definitely be back to this hidden gem as soon as possible 😊

Janine is an excellent host, lots of information on things to do and see. Sent email with list of restaurants which was very helpful to book in advance. Helped us book a taxi to get to restaurant. Breakfast was delicious, nothing is too much trouble. Bedroom with 4poster was really comfy. Will definitely be back as the location is perfect for visiting the local area.

Lovely town, beautiful situation, really nice people. Lovely walks and beach at Kearney. Nice shop keepers, especially butcher. Loved the ferry to Strangford and beyond. Wanted to go to Donaghadee but road closed. Ate at home except for one night at Salt Water Brig…lovely place!

It's a lovely location, just by the mouth of Strangford...

It's a lovely location, just by the mouth of Strangford Lough. We had lovely coffee at Tréan and also liked Cuan Crafts. The Spice Inn and Sailing Club were recommended to us for food. You're also just across from Strangford by ferry.

Great location on the Strangford Lough.The short crossing on the ferry is well worth it across the turbulent waters, even as a foot passenger for £1.40! More than likely to see porpoises as I did. Quaint little town of Strangford worth a visit.

It's a beautiful little town, with stunning views and so much to explore. There are plenty of other towns nearby that you could easily get lost for hours or days exploring all of them. It's incredibly walkable, and there are several delicious restaurants nearby. Be sure to take the ferry across the lough to see the towns on the mainland. On the Ards Peninsula side, St. Cooey's Well is a must-see. Be sure to bring a ribbon to tie onto the tree to say a prayer/make a wish. It's an incredibly peaceful and holy place. Could not recommend Portaferry enough.

LIVENS UP A BIT DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AND PUBS / RESTAURANTS DO WELL OPENING WED - SUN., MANY CLOSING MON TUE. LOTS OF HISTORY GOING BACK TO VIKINGS AND BEFORE. ATE IN THE SALTHOUSE AT PORTAFERRY SAILING CLUB WHICH WAS FULLY BOOKED. EXCELLENT QUALITY AND QUANTITY, AND VERY DECENT PRICING COMPARED TO MANY. A COUPLE OF COFFEE SHOPS , THE PORTAFERRY HOTEL, SEVERAL GOOD PUBS. SHORE LINE IS FAIRLY FLAT AND THEN FOLLOW EITHER FERRY ST OR CASTLE ST (UP HILL) TOWARDS THE TOWN SQUARE - EUROSPAR / WINEMARK / MARKET HOUSE / SHOPS / BUTCHERS / CHIP SHOPS / PUBS. FROM THE SQUARE TAKE THE LEFT ST PAST FIDDLERS PUB FURTHER UP CHURCH ST TO COACH INN (SANDS) THEN TO THE RIGHT, UP ANN ST TO LOCAL CLINIC.
